6th grade science students are investigating algae this week with Algae Academy. Students are growing and calculating biomass of algae and how it can be used as a solution to today's global concerns.



Today, Metro welcomed back a group of staff and students who traveled to Ecuador during spring break. The trip was an educational, cultural and recreational adventure!





The Metrobots were at the Finger Lakes Regional Competition earlier this month and will be headed to Cleveland State University for another competition this weekend. Best wishes to Team 3324 and their mentors/coaches.

Science Fun: As part of their study of ecosystems, Mrs. J's 6th grade students are learning from and interacting with scientists from around the country through March Mammal Madness.



Programming Fun: 7th graders learned to program Sphero robots to perform tasks. The students pictured created an interactive game of hot potato.



Rainy Day Activities: Wellness students enjoyed a variety of indoor sports at the ARC today.



To prepare for the spring Design Challenge, 7th graders made a visit to Ohio Stadium to learn about the "Zero Waste" program that aims to recycle, repurpose or compost all waste from football games. Check out Mrs. Wright on the 50 yard line!





Real-World Problem Solving: 6th graders visited the McKenny Educational Center to learn about water infrastructure in preparation for their Design Challenge project work.


Capstone internship placements give Metro H.S. students exposure to hands on learning, as Shirish P. is experiencing working with his mentor at Nationwide Children's Hospital.


All 11th graders will take the state-sponsored ACT at Metro on Tuesday, March 1. To accommodate testing, all other middle and high school students will have virtual classes. Only juniors should report to Metro in person on March 1.


At the recent district competition, Metro's Mock Trial Team #1 qualified to advance to regionals, and the following students earned individual awards: Keegan Rudy & Maxwell Darr - Outstanding Attorney, Zoey Drake & Kyla Campbell - Outstanding Witness. Congratulations!


Metro welcomed professionals from a wide variety of fields to present to students for Career Day. Special guests included a one-eyed owl brought by a local veterinarian and animal rescuer.



Metro Schools will be closed on Friday, February 4 due to inclement weather conditions. Rather than moving to a virtual day, we will cancel classes and have a traditional "snow day."


Tonight's PTSA meeting will go on as planned and will be hosted at 6:30pm on Zoom. The agenda will include funding requests, volunteer opportunities and other updates. All families are invited to participate from the comfort of home; check your email for the meeting link.


Metro Schools will move to a Virtual Day (online classes) for Thursday, February 3 due to inclement weather anticipated in our area. Parents and students should check their email for further details on Thursday's class schedule.

Wellness students took advantage of the warmest day this week to complete their initial PT test: two minutes of pushups, two minutes of sit-ups and a one mile run. Class requirements include setting goals to be healthier, stronger and faster by the end of the term.

Drone Flight was one of the many exciting J-Term courses that engaged students in real-world skill application this month.
