A Vision Rooted in Access, Excellence & Opportunity
Founded through a unique partnership between Battelle and The Ohio State University, Metro was designed to provide students access to a rigorous, college-preparatory STEM education. Metro is a non-selective public STEM school, welcoming students from over 25 districts and all backgrounds. Its vision remains to create an inclusive learning environment where students from every community can flourish and pursue their dreams.
"Metro was built on the belief that every student, no matter their zip code, deserves access to a high-quality, forward-looking education that prepares them for college, career and life," says Meka Pace, Superintendent of Metro Schools. "These rankings reflect the strength of our mission and the dedication of our teachers, families and partners."
College, Career & Beyond
Metro's innovative model connects classroom learning to real-world experiences through career pathways, design challenges, and internships with local STEM businesses and OSU. Students can earn college credit through The Ohio State University, participate in industry internships, and complete capstone projects that address authentic challenges faced by community and business partners.
"Metro students don't just study STEM, they live it," said Anthony Alston, Director of External Affairs. "They graduate not only ready for college but with the confidence, skills and experiences to lead in the workforce of tomorrow."
Expanding the Metro Model
With the opening of Metro's new elementary school in 2025, the district has extended its proven approach to earlier grades, ensuring students begin developing curiosity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills from the start of their academic journey. The new Metro@Indianola campus combines Metro's middle and high schools in one historic, renovated site in Columbus' University District, symbolizing a new era of innovation and opportunity.
