Superintendent's Message

We are excited for the start of Metro’s 18th school year and all that it has in store for our students, staff and families!

I’d like to first highlight the achievements of the graduating class of 2023. The class included 127 graduates with 50% qualifying for a STEM Honors or Academic Honors diploma. Collectively, they earned 3543 college credits, which averages to about 29 credits per student. 95% of the class earned college credit while at Metro, the highest percentage of all our previous graduating classes. We are proud of all the remarkable accomplishments of our students!

This fall, we welcome two new members to the administrative team: Marc Sterner and La’Rez Wilson. Mr. Sterner will be the new Middle School Assistant Principal, coming to us from St. Mary’s Catholic School in German Village. Mr. Wilson will join Metro as a Bright Fellow and will intern with the administrative team this school year. We are very excited to have them both join our staff!

Our building is undergoing several physical changes during summer. The middle school renovation project has steadily progressed. To date, we have walls for the classrooms and offices and will have flooring installed soon. Our newly renovated space will include a multipurpose room, upgraded fire suppression and a full building paging system. All of these changes will serve to enhance our school.

During this year, Metro will undergo its national accreditation review with Cognia. The onsite review will take place in February. In its entirety, the process will highlight our strengths and help identify areas for growth and the supports needed in those areas.

We have added a few more virtual days to the calendar to accommodate the shortened breaks due to the construction schedule and to accommodate some of the needs of our partners at the PAST Foundation. These virtual days will be a full day of school with a later start and end time than in past years and added breaks between classes.

Without the support of our parents and community partners, Metro would not be where it is today. I encourage you to join the PTSA to see how to get and stay involved with the school. We look forward to seeing all Metro families at the Meet & Greet Ice Cream Social sponsored by the PTSA on August 29 (more details to come). Here’s to a great 2023-24 school year!
