Partners In Transforming Education: PAST Innovation Lab & Metro Schools

Partners In Transforming Education

PAST Innovation Lab & Metro Schools

In 2006 Metro Early College High School opened its doors to high school students from around Central Ohio, and in 2013 to middle school students. Then, like today, students and teachers share a focus on STEM education and building a collaborative learning environment.

PAST Innovation Lab and Metro Schools developed a partnership 10 years ago, working together to discover innovative and engaging ways to educate students. PAST hosts four of Metro’s Early College Experiences: Bodies, Growth, Design and Energy.  The early college experiences connect high school and college coursework to industry pathways.

To launch the new school year Meka Pace, Metro Executive Director, and the school’s faculty toured some of the Metro business partners. The day long field trip culminated at PAST with a tour around the PAST facility led by Annalies Corbin, Ph.D, PAST President and CEO.

“I really wanted the teachers to understand that school doesn’t just happen in a vacuum; but that the experiences and opportunities we provide for our students are truly preparing them to be a generation of thinkers who have the skills to apply their learning in a myriad of situations,” said Pace.

Pace wanted to help teachers understand that Metro truly is a small school with a big footprint. Many teachers did not realize the impact Metro has had on other schools in Ohio and across the nation.
