PTSO Meeting; New Officer Openings

The PTSO invites you to their monthly meeting May 13 at 6:30pm. Mr. Neugebauer will be speaking about the Gateway process.

The PTSO is also looking for interested parents to apply for officer openings. Positions include vice-president (will transfer to president in 2015-2016 school year), secretary and Festival of Friends chair. WHAT’S NEW

Early Release Friday for High School Students

This Friday is the Junior/Senior prom, so high school students will have early release at noon to allow students and staff time to prepare. Middle school students will have a regular class day with dismissal at 2:30pm.High school students who do not have transportation available for noondismissal will be provided a quiet study room after lunch and are encouraged to attend the Luau fundraiser in the afternoon (see the note below for details). Students will NOT be permitted to leave school property and return, so please be sure to discuss plans with your child (whether they will be picked up or head home on COTA at noon or remain in the study room until regular dismissal time). 

Luau Fundraiser Friday

 

This Friday, Mr. Schlunt and Mr. Sisley’s advisories are hosting a Luau to save the rainforests. Tickets will be $3 and will include 5 food and beverage tickets! Come learn about the tropical rainforests, play games, and sample exotic foods. Every $100 raised will save 2 acres of the rainforest, so please come and show your support!

ACT for 2nd Year Students

Metro would like to encourage current 2nd year students who have completed a majority of their 18 core academic credits to consider taking the ACT in June or September of this year. Students completing English 12, Pre-Calc and their final science course are well positioned to excel on the test. Visit the ACT website (www.act.org) to register. Test dates and registration deadlines are as follows:

June 14 test: May 9 deadline. Late registration with fee May 10-23

Sept. 13 test: Aug. 9 deadline. Late registration with fee Aug. 9-22.

Plant Sale This Week

 

The Sutton advisory is holding a plant sale after school all week (or until supplies are depleted).  Students will be selling flower and vegetable seedlings in the front lobby from 2:15 to 3:30 for $1 each.  Proceeds will benefit an organization associated with the Half the Sky Foundation (visit http://www.halftheskymovement.org to learn more).

OSU Summer Architecture Camp

The OSU Knowlton School of Architecture is hosting a summer camp June 16-27 for high school students. Daily activities run from 9am-3pm, Monday through Friday.

Students in the High School Design Studio will explore architecture, urban planning, and landscape architecture through a studio project focused on the redevelopment of the Scioto Riverfront in downtown Columbus. At the end of the two week session, campers will have materials that can be used in portfolios for college applications. Visit

Staff Appreciation This Week

Special thanks to Ms. Miller, her advisory and all families who donated items to make Staff Appreciation week a success. We’re off to a great start and look forward to a great week. If you would still like to donate note cards, gift cards or other items, you are welcome to send them in with your student or drop off to Ms. Miller in the office.
